ROLE | Intern

OVERVIEW | Perform a variety of different tasks throughout the corporate communications department. Projects included writing and designing graphics for social media, writing stories and designing layouts for the community newsletter, assist in the creation of a marketing plan for a new center focused on in-person interaction with customers.
KCP&L CONNECT
KCP&L Connect is a new center focused on face-to-face customer interaction. It has many functions including: being able to pay your bill, getting account support, kitchen demonstrations that show off the smart home electronics, and information on electric vehicles. My role this summer was to put together a marketing plan that included pitching over 50 ideas for media placement over a variety of different channels. I included everything from billboards to social media posts. Below are examples of some mockups (Left: billboard. Right: bus wraps) I created as a part of my project.
SOCIAL MEDIA
KCP&L has three social media channels: Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. During my internship, I was able to constantly contribute to the social media channels by writing copy over a variety of topics related to the utility business. I was also able to utilize the Adobe creative suite to create new graphics for these posts.
COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER
A newsletter is sent by mail to every residential customer each quarter. Residential customers total to over 800,000 people. I was given the chance to write stories and design the spreads for two pages of the newsletter.
